About Cambria Houston

Todd Interests acquired the 175,000 square foot, 21 story building as a Class B office tower with 65 small tenants on the books. Over the course of a year Todd Interests worked to successfully de-tenant the entire building exposing its true value in a growing residential neighborhood. The building also underwent full asbestos abatement and obtained State and Federal Historic Tax Credits.

Choice Hotels International, one of the world’s largest hotel franchisors, purchased the building from Todd Interests in 2016 for its Cambria Hotel brand. Todd Interests and Choice then came together to partner on the redevelopment with Todd Interests acting as the developer.

In Fall of 2019 the Petroleum Building will open as Houston’s first Cambria Hotel. The project is comprised of 226 keys, a lounge with full service restaurant and bar on the second floor, multiple meeting rooms, and premier ballroom on the 21st floor.

“In 1926, a prominent Houston oilman saw the opportunity to bring under a single roof a number of companies involved in the still new, burgeoning petroleum industry and so the Petroleum Building was built. Renamed for a period as the Great Southwest Building, Petroleum Building has undergone a complete renovation to become one of the premier boutique hotels in Downtown Houston.”
